Hancock Watch site visit Mar 01: Plantation located on very mild slopes south of Koetong. No harvesting was apparent and it also appeared that there may have been some kind of mountain swamp community inside the plantation. There was some evidence of native vegetation. Harvesting impacts on local creek systems likely to be low.

Tallangatta Creek: Flows through grazing land, gravel and rock bed. Catchment is badly eroded, and stream is badly silted in its lower reaches. Contains brown trout. Fish to 2kg enter from Lake Hume when water conditions are suitable during April-June; many small redfin, river Blackfish and rainbow trout and goldfish in its lower reaches.

Upper Murray River: The Upper Murray Basin is drained by numerous small streams which comprise part of the headwaters of the Murray River. All the rivers, except the lower reaches of the northern streams, flow through inaccessible, heavily forested mountain country. The two best trout waters are the Cudgewa and Nariel Creeks. Koetong Creek is being stocked with Trout Cod as part of a program aimed at establishing additional viable populations of this endangered native fish species.
