February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/College Creek: Old growth stags, superb habitat for creatures such as Powerful Owls and Yellow Bellied Gliders, bulldozed for no reason by Hancock. Hancock Watch counted at least half a dozen stags destroyed at this one location in College Creek. Also see January 2010.

February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: A portion of this coupe lies inside the Strzelecki Cores and Links Rainforest Reserve. It appears Hancock may have possibly planted out a small area of the Reserve at this location in Shining Gum, thereby converting Reserve into Plantation.
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: Location where some of the above conversion may have occurred. What are the exact GPS co-ordinates for the rainforest reserve? Why aren't they publicly available? Without public scrutiny, how can the company be held to account? Hancock Watch believes that GPS location 55443926E, 5735448N is inside the Reserve.Where does the coupe finish and the Reserve Start. Is there a Reserve buffer zone or will plantations be established right up to the edge of the Reserve?
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: Location of plantation conversion very close or in Rainforest Reserve. One interesting question that has not been posed, is how will the Rainforest Reserve be protected when Hancock come back and log the Shining Gum in 15-20 years? How will future logging operations safeguard the Reserve (and buffers) from the impacts of plantation logging, including tree fall and machinery access?
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: Strzelecki Cores and Links Rainforest Reserve, just north of Snakes Back Track. Under the Cores and Links Agreement, a once only logging operation would occur and the portion logged lieing inside the Reserve would be added to the Reserve system. This photo is facing south and is taken inside the Reserve (note regrowth). The area outside of the reserve can be clearly seen, as regeneration is almost non-existent.

Showing new portion of reserve in distance and non reserved land - Shining Gum plantation in foreground. This entire site was Mt Ash reforestation only a year or so ago.
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: Strzelecki Cores and Links Rainforest Reserve. This forest area will also be logged under this secret agreement. A large proportion of the Mt Ash seen in this photo will be clearfelled and then supposedly added to the Reserve system.
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: Snakes Back Track. Recent conversion of Mt Ash into Shining Gum which is a non-endemic species in the Strzeleckis. Essentially this is conversion and is not supposed to occur under FSC certification.
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges/Morwell River headwaters: Just off Morwell River Road. More conversion of Mt Ash into Shining Gum. Many stumps at this site measured about 1m in length. Most of the retained trees measured <1m.

February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges - Macks Creek. Endangered Sticky Wattle growing through young pine plantation. Hexazinone will most likely kill the Sticky Wattle if it is used in this plantation.
February 2010: Strzelecki Ranges - Stony Creek. Bulldozing of E.nitens plantation one year after it was burnt in the catastrophic February 2009 bushfires.
