Catchment Managment Authority: West Gippsland Catchment Management
Authority.
September 2007: This plantation has seen an active
interest by Lakes Oil
in 2007. Exploration has been occurring for oil and gas by this company.
Interestingly Lakes Oil has also targeted two other (non Hancock)plantations
for exploration opportunities in 2007, one about 3km south east of Longford
and another about 8km north of Seaspray. If hydrocarbons are discovered
kiss the plantations goodbye.
September 2007: Hancock has, for some reason, recently
changed the name of this plantation.
September 2007: Broken and dismantled culverts noted
at several locations throughout the plantation.
September 2007: Exceedingly poor drainage inside
Lacey plantation, probably as a result of culvert destruction.
September 2007: Wipeout of hundreds of hectares
of young plantation. Most of the trees on this site were established
in 1988. These trees were logged at an age of less than 20 years old.
This is unusual and could be a result of poor growth or could it be
associated with the area being required for Hydrocarbon Exploration?
September 2007: Another view of the 'premature'
wipeout of pine plantations at Giffard.
September 2007: Signs of wet weather work in a drainage
line in this plantation.
September 2007: More poor drainage inside Giffard,
make that Lacey plantation.
September 2003: Plantation
located on old farmland and was established in the 1980's. There could
be native remant native vegetation on the north western aspect of the
plantation.
Plantation Catchment: Flat land draining south. The
plantation lies about 2km south of Monkey Creek and is located on a
stretch of land approximately 8km long and 2km wide between the South
Gippsland Highway and Giffard Longford Road.
Area within PaperlinX
area of supply.
Area within Brown and Dureau Softwoods (Morwell) area
of supply.
